I have to be honest I’ve never seen the movie but of course I know about Audrey, the dress, the ambiance and the myth of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I’m a fan of their Paloma Picasso gold pieces. I heard about the (newish) Blue Box Cafe at the New York Tiffany & Co. store when it first opened through news articles and during a recent trip to New York for my domestic study, I decided to schedule a visit.
I loved the Tiffany china and place settings on the tables and the Tiffany blue walls. The service was excellent and the waitstaff wore Tiffany blue ties and tie clips to align with the brand. The cafe is on the fourth floor of the six story store. I think Instagram and social media make the cafe look a bit larger than life and create a bigger vibe than the cafe really is. It’s a fairly small corner of the store. I’d call it quaint and cozy with seating for no more than forty folks at the time. Forty would be tight. During our visit, 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon, there were about twelve of us in there. Maybe as the interest grows they might expand it. I’m sure they could make room, but for now its a good start!
Overall, I would highly recommend ordering the tea. We got three tiers of savory and sweetness to enjoy alongside a selection of unique teas. I choose the Tiffany blend which is a unique loose leaf black tea with notes of lychee, lavender and vanilla. If you go, I highly recommend choosing this tea. If I go back, I’d order an additional tea or two to enjoy along with the foods on the tea tower.
I did not enjoy the rosé and the guests that I went with did not enjoy the Sauvignon blanc or Champagne margarita. The price points of the alcohol (expensive) and the taste (not high quality and small pours) didn’t really align. So cocktails aren’t really their speciality.
Making a reservation is the most difficult part of the experience. I signed up a month out, tried and tried on the website. However, it’s pretty difficult to get a spot on the books. So, I took other measures to get in . If this is something that you really want to do, I would recommend:
- Downloading the Resy app and creating an account – I was never able to get the Resy website to do much for me so I recommend using and working with the app in order to make this happen.
- Set up notifications – Setting up notifications for different days and times when you are able to go to the cafe. I did it for 2 different days and 4-5 different times.
- Be flexible – Make sure that you have some flexible times to make a visit happen
If you’re on the fence, it’s worth the experience! Enjoy.
