Recently, I went to Macy’s at Lenox Mall after work on a mission. Armed and ready with gift cards I’ve been saving since my birthday, Christmas and Thanks for Sharing, I had a list of specifics to get:

– a decent pair of blue jean shorts, not too short but not bermuda style (found some on sale, WIN)

– Urban Decay Naked Flushed pallette (found and LOVE this)

– maxi dresses (failed to find these and I was disappointed :()

While looking at the makeup I ran into a woman selling a perfume. She sprayed it for me and I smelled it and tried to keep it moving. But after a second smell, I was drawn back. I had no intentions to purchase perfume, but there was something about this one. I just couldn’t walk away. A few minutes later, I was leaving the store with my gift cards all used the shorts, pallette and the unintended purchase of a new perfume:

Signorina Ferragamo – Don’t you just love the bottle?

Have you ever purchased something you didn’t expect to simply because of the smell? So many things are sold simply on scent. Scent is a huge part of marketing that rarely gets explored. Think about Cinnabons. Sometimes, I walk by the store just to smell them and look at them to satisfy my desire to eat one as opposed to purchasing. One of the most interesting scent campaigns that I have seen lately has to be the latest one for the premiere of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo on TLC. Honey Boo Boo is a spin off from Toddlers and Tiaras featuring a 7 year old pageant queen named Alana who lives with her family (3 sisters, baby niece and parents) in a rural Georgia town. The show follows their unique family doing things like cooking, trying to lose weight, eating roadkill and attending the Redneck Summer Games. Yes, I have watched an episode or two, the family is entertaining -in their own oh so special way. The season 2 premiere will be a ‘Watch ‘n Sniff’ event on July 17th:

I really like the idea of making it a ‘Watch ‘n Sniff’ event, however, based off of what the family does on the show sometimes I would be nervous to smell any of these ;). They play different games centered around body odors, and beyond that you can use your imagination. The ‘Watch ‘n Sniff’ pull-outs will be in a few select tabloid magazines for readers to get. This is a fun, but gross way to market the show. I can’t imagine any of the scents smelling pleasant but the game should be a fun follow along for show watchers.

Happy Wednesday! I am trying a new product that I can’t wait to review next week 🙂 Stay tuned.
